Classic Helles Wins 2018 International Beer Challenge

ABK Hell has been judged supreme champion beer at this year’s International Beer Challenge.

After winning the trophy for best lager up to 5%, to claim the top title the Bavarian beer saw off challenges from the other trophy winners – Bohemia Doppelbock (lager above 5%), Rising Sons Changeling (ale up to 5%), Bohemia Wee Heavy (ale above 5%), Crazy Brew Russian Imperial Stout (stout or porter), Lidksoe Wheat (wheat beer), Birra del Borgo L’Equilibrista (flavoured beer) and Hertog Jan Grand Prestige Vatgerijpt Goose Island (speciality beer).

Overall brewer of the year in the competition was presented to the European brewer of the year, Hertog Jan, with other continental awards presented to Hawkers Beer (Oceania), Bohemia (South America) and Boston Beer/Samuel Adams (North America). For Asian breweries, a highly commended award was presented to Carlsberg Vietnam. UK Brewer of the Year was Harvey’s.
