Hogs Back Hopgarden to Be Relocated

News: August 2018

The latest – and last – harvest from Surrey’s Hogs Back Brewery’s current hopgarden is about to be gathered.

The project, which began four years ago, is now to be upscaled, moving to a new site on the farm on which the brewery stands. A former wheat field, which is more than twice the size of the current 3.5-acre plot, is due to be prepared for hops ready for 2019. With no overhead power lines to contend with, taller poles and wires can be introduced.

The 2018 crop is said to be more about quality than quantity, with the hot summer expected to result in less of a yield. The hops will be used again in various Hogs Back beers and the new development will eventually provide around half of the brewery’s hop requirements.
