Wetherspoon Again Cuts Prices for a Day

Print
News: August 2018

Pub chain Wetherspoon is again putting its weight behind the initiative to cut the VAT imposed on food and drink in pubs by cutting the prices of its own offering for one day.

To mark Tax Equality Day on Thursday, 13 September, Wetherspoon pubs will reduce prices on food and drink by 7.5% (food and soft drinks only in Scotland).

At present, food and drink in pubs and restaurants is subject to VAT at 20%, whereas supermarkets benefit from a zero VAT rate on the majority of food products. Wetherspoon founder Tim Martin believes that tax equality between pubs and supermarkets would generate growth and create jobs in the leisure and hospitality sectors.
