CAMRA Demands Government Action on Pub Closures

Print
News: March 2018

New figures released by the Campaign for Real Ale show that eighteen pubs are still being lost every week in the UK.

According to the consumer group, pubs are being hit hard by a triple whammy of one of the highest rates of beer duty across Europe, rapidly rising business rates and VAT. It says a third of the cost of a pub pint is now made up of various taxes.

CAMRA is now calling on the Government to use the opportunity potentially offered by Brexit to implement a fundamental review of the tax system, possibly by setting a lower rate of duty for beer sold in pubs, radically changing the business rates system or charging a lower rate of VAT for pubs.
