Pubs Becoming ‘Unaffordable Luxury’, says CAMRA

News: October 2017

Research commissioned by the Campaign for Real Ale shows that increasing numbers of people are now being deterred from visiting pubs because of soaring prices.

CAMRA blames increased taxation, in the form of higher business rates and beer duty, for the rise in pub prices and has called for a permanent £5,000 business rate relief for all pubs in England and a freeze, or reduction, in the rate of beer duty for the rest of this parliament.

CAMRA says four in ten pubs are experiencing a rise in business rates and fears thousands of community pubs could be lost as a result.
