Print
News: May 2017

Charles Wells has announced the sales of its brewing assets to rival brewer Marston’s.

The £55 million deal sees the Midlands company take over the Charles Wells brewery in Bedford. Included in the agreement are brand interests such as the Young’s, McEwan’s and Courage brands and the UK distribution rights to beers such as Kirin, Estrella Damm, Erdinger and Founders.

The Charlie Wells and John Bull brands will be retained by Wells, which plans to build a new smaller brewery in Bedford to supply its pubs, both in the UK and France, which are not part of the sale.

Marston’s, which already owns several UK breweries, including Ringwood, Jennings and Wychwood, has a made a commitment to continue brewing in Bedford.
