Asahi Buys Pilsner Urquell

Japanese brewing giant Asahi has acquired brewing assets from AB InBev in central and eastern Europe.

The £6.1 billion deal includes brands from the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania, including Tyskie, Kozel, Lech and Dreher (Hungary), as well as the revered Pilsner Urquell, the original pale lager brewery.

Asahi now becomes a major world player, also owning names such as Peroni, Grolsch and Meantime.
