The Return of the Bear

Lager drinkers from the 1980s will soon see a beer on sale they might recognise.

Hofmeister, a brand once produced by Courage, was widely advertised during that decade by a bear named George. Drinkers were encouraged to ‘follow the bear’ by choosing the beer.

Now, after an absence of thirteen years, the brand has been revived by a team of British businessmen who have scrapped the original 3.2% ABV recipe and commissioned a Bavarian brewery to reinvent Hofmeister as a 5% helles.

The beer goes on sale in pubs and bars in bottle and keg in November.
