Australian Beer Wins International Beer Challenge

A beer from Adelaide, Australia, has been judged supreme champion beer at this year's International Beer Challenge in London.

After winning the trophy for best ale above 5%, Prancing Pony India Red Ale took the top honour, seeing off challenges from other trophy winners that came from Wicklow in Ireland, Edge Brewing in Australia, Boston Beer (Samuel Adams) in the USA, Colorado in Brazil, Lidskoe in Belarus, Redwell in England and Okells in the Isle of Man.

Overall brewer of the year in the competition was another Australian company, Hawkers Beer, with continental awards presented to Tiny Rebel in the UK, Brasserie des Sources in France, Long Sun in Taiwan, Cervejaria Blumenau in Brazil and Boston Beer in the USA.

Marks & Spencer won the UK retailer of the year for the third year running and the winner of the inaugural Glenn Payne Rising Star Award was Brighton Bier.
