Franklins Develops Bagel Beer

Sussex brewery Franklins has linked up with local bagel maker Bagelman to incorporate bagels into a beer.

The brewery is now taking spare bagels from the baker to be added to the mash tun to create an amber ale called Optimist. The beer will be available locally on draught and further afield in bottles.

The initiative echoes the release earlier this year of Toast, a pale ale made originally by Hackney Brewery and now by Hambleton Ales that makes use of left-over bread from British bakeries.
